Stellar Photo Recovery/3. Getting Started/3.2. Recover Data from System Disk with High Sierra and Above
To recover data from the system drive havingCatalina, Mojave, High Sierra,orBig Sur, you need to allow macOS to load an extension signed by “Stellar Data Recovery”. In macOS, an extension is a small piece of code that extended the system’s functionality. ForStellar Photo Recovery, this extension is required to access files on the system drive in the new macOS. This extension is already authorized byAppleand does not harm your system or privacy.
When you scan a System Disk usingStellar Photo Recoveryfor the first time,Stellar Photo Recoveryprompts you to allow the extension. Procedure to allow the extension is given as follows:
1. When you scan a System Disk containing macOS files inStellar Photo Recovery, you receive an “Allow Extension” prompt as shown below:
2. ClickNext, a dialog box appears showing you a short procedure to allow the extension.
3. ClickNexton this screen to view theSystem Extension Blockeddialog box as shown below:
4. ClickOpen Security Preferencesand wait for the system to open theSecurity & Privacysettings.
Note: In some cases, like if you clickOKon theSystem Extension Blockeddialog box instead ofOpen Security Preferences,Stellar Photo Recoverymight not give you the option to open theSecurity & Privacysettings when you run scan the next time. In that case, you need to manually open theSecurity & Privacysettings using the procedure given inHow to manually open the Security & Privacy settings in macOS.
5. On the bottom left corner of the window, click the lockicon.
6. Use yourTouch ID(if available) or enter your system administrator credentials and clickUnlock. This enables theAllowbutton on theSecurity & Privacywindow.
7. ClickAllow, allowing macOS to load the extension signed by “Stellar Data Recovery”.
8. CloseSecurity & Privacywindow to go back toStellar Photo Recoverysoftware.
9. ClickContinueon theAllow Extensionwindow to resume your scan of the System Disk.
In some cases, if you are unable to allow macOS to load the extension in the first attempt,Stellar Photo Recoverydisplays the following dialog when you scan a system disk the next time.
This means you have to manually open theSecurity & Privacysettings in macOS. The procedure to open the security settings is given as follows:
1. Click theAppleicon from the top left of your screen and selectSystem Preferencesfrom the drop-down menu.
2. SelectSecurity & Privacy.
3. Follow the steps fromStep 5of the procedure to allow macOS to load an extension signed by “Stellar Data Recovery”.
